So… What is this blog?
Inspired by the writing of Theresa Beyer, Thomas Burkhalter and Hannes Liechti in Seismographic Sounds, this blog looks into the opinions of the non-musical and their interactions with Global Popular Music.
Due to time based restraints, unlike in Seismographic Sounds, the weeks have not been split into sections such as WAR or MONEY, instead focusing solely upon War in Global Pop as right now, it is a much discussed and politically intriguing topic.
Thomas Burkhalter used this book to explore the ever-changing global music scene, looking into the way in which Global Music is changing. ‘Future mainstream hits and underground trends will come from Africa, Asia and Latin America too’… But how true is this? Do the people of England agree?
That’s what this blog aims to find out. As well as discuss politically driven topics, what with the theme being WAR.
So… How does this blog work?
Spread over a six week period, this blog explores six different genres and countries in global music. (And yes, I wish it could have been more).
Week Two: Argentinian Rock Music
Week Three: English Grime Music
Week Four: African Electronic Music
Each week will be split into four and then again by two… Stick with me. Four interviewees will be giving their response to the chosen song of that week; when they have heard the song for the first time (with no context or extra information) and when they have been provided with background information to both the song and artist.
The responses given by the interviewees are immediate reactions which are both written and spoken by the participants themselves. They are raw and truthful.
REMEMBER: THERE ARE MULTIPLE PAGES PER POST.
