{"id":205,"date":"2021-06-15T14:29:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-15T13:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/jamesallison\/?p=205"},"modified":"2021-11-11T16:05:43","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T16:05:43","slug":"fellowship-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/aerosols\/2021\/06\/15\/fellowship-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Fellowship Success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We&nbsp;are delighted&nbsp;to share that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/dental\/people\/profile\/jamesallison.html\">James Allison<\/a>&nbsp;has&nbsp;been awarded&nbsp;two prestigious fellowships.&nbsp;The first is a the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rcseng.ac.uk\/dental-faculties\/fds\/research\/fds-research-fellowships\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rcseng.ac.uk\/dental-faculties\/fds\/research\/fds-research-fellowships\/\" target=\"_blank\">Faculty of Dental Surgery Research Fellowship<\/a>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;Royal College of Surgeons of England.&nbsp;This fellowship allows clinical trainees to&nbsp;obtain&nbsp;research training by covering salary, on-costs and research consumables, and will fund the first year of James&#8217;s PhD. James\u2019 second fellowship, which will fund years two and three of James&#8217;s PhD, is a Wellcome Clinical Research Training Fellowship from the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.4wardnorth.org.uk\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.4wardnorth.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wellcome 4ward North Clinical PhD programme<\/a>\u2014an exceptional programme led by four of the UK\u2019s top universities: The Universities of Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, and Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/mediav8\/dental\/images\/james_allison_003GF.jpg\" alt=\"James Allison, School of Dental Sciences\" \/><figcaption>James Allison, Clinical Fellow in Oral Surgery at the School of Dental Sciences, Newcastle University.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>James&#8217;s PhD will look at the dispersion of viruses and other pathogens in the aerosols produced during healthcare procedures, using dentistry as a model.\u00a0James will\u00a0be based\u00a0at Newcastle University, and will work with his supervisors and collaborators in the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and Northumbria, as well as the UK&#8217;s national measurement institute\u2014the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npl.co.uk\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.npl.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Physical Laboratory<\/a>.\u00a0This work aims to understand how infection might\u00a0be transmitted\u00a0in tiny water droplets during procedures like drilling and scaling teeth, and how this can\u00a0be controlled\u00a0in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&nbsp;are delighted&nbsp;to share that&nbsp;James Allison&nbsp;has&nbsp;been awarded&nbsp;two prestigious fellowships.&nbsp;The first is a the&nbsp;Faculty of Dental Surgery Research Fellowship&nbsp;from the&nbsp;Royal College of Surgeons of England.&nbsp;This fellowship allows clinical trainees to&nbsp;obtain&nbsp;research training by covering salary, on-costs and research consumables, and will fund the first year of James&#8217;s PhD.
