Roma students at all stages of education from early years to higher education face social and educational exclusion as a result of intolerance, prejudice, poverty and racism alongside discriminatory language policies which ignore and devalue their multilingualism.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a24aa7c7c0bcc00ca5e5c4edeaa11edf\" style=\"line-height:2\"><strong>ROMtels<\/strong>&nbsp;(Roma Translanguaging enquiry learning space): we worked collaboratively with teachers and Roma pupils and their families, some of whom have experienced extreme discrimination interrupting their own schooling, to improve education for Roma pupils by bringing to life the varied Romani dialects within the classroom:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncl.ac.uk\/romtels\/\">ROMtels; ROMtels; Newcastle University (ncl.ac.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2452deee26cc9831ee18524452039386\" style=\"line-height:2\">We are delighted that ROMtels is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/evessio.s3.amazonaws.com\/customer\/3897c7b1-0c71-459a-8ee7-fd8251fd666e\/event\/5c3928ea-fc32-4e76-ba12-eac8e01ca262\/media\/General_Content\/79d6016c-node_03_43G599L158K2MXX_newc-un_1.pdf\">shortlisted for Research Project Of The Year (Arts, Humanities &amp; Social Sciences) at the 2020 Times Higher Education Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-black-background-color has-background\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9b919d8f692c1cd7663943eb90a10d18\" style=\"line-height:2\"><strong>Read our Guidance Handbooks (translated into Finnish, French, Romanian and Spanish):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-003544e4959c9e232e249e8247387d29\" style=\"line-height:2\">A Pedagogy for bi\/plurilingual pupils: Translanguaging.
