{"id":15,"date":"2017-12-17T16:37:09","date_gmt":"2017-12-17T16:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/?p=15"},"modified":"2017-12-20T16:37:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T16:37:00","slug":"big-day-for-team-anemone-on-friday-december-15th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/2017\/12\/17\/big-day-for-team-anemone-on-friday-december-15th\/","title":{"rendered":"Big day for Team Anemone on Friday December 15th&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;yes, the launch of our long-awaited blog! \u00a0Just in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-19 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/files\/2017\/12\/CON_A_crop-1-242x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"242\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/files\/2017\/12\/CON_A_crop-1-242x300.jpg 242w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/files\/2017\/12\/CON_A_crop-1-768x952.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ateam\/files\/2017\/12\/CON_A_crop-1-826x1024.jpg 826w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Okay, we officially kicked-off our first big project in May (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leverhulme.ac.uk\/awards-made\/awards-focus\/going-back-basics-reverse-engineering-adhesive-sea-anemone-aiptasia-pallida\">Leverhulme Research Project Grant<\/a>) so it&#8217;s taken us some time, but a lot has been happening!<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncl.ac.uk\/biofouling\/people\/presentmembers\/drmarcelorodrigues.html\">Marcelo<\/a> arrived in May 2017 we established cultures of everybody&#8217;s favourite anemone,\u00a0<em>Aiptasia,<\/em> with lots of help from the <a href=\"http:\/\/guselab.de\">Guse Lab<\/a> in Heidelberg &#8211; thank you Annika et al. \ud83d\ude09 \u00a0Jess followed in September and the A-Team is now up to full strength. \u00a0We have an exciting 4 years ahead &#8211; so many opportunities, so little time. \u00a0It has taken a lot of hard work by Marcelo and myself to get us to this point&#8230; \u00a0I started investigating adhesion of sea anemones during a 2012 Visiting Professorship to St FX university in Nova Scotia. \u00a0Marcelo was simultaneously embarking on a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Innsbruck, studying adhesion of <em>Hydra<\/em>. \u00a0Our paths crossed at a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enba4.eu\">COST Action\u00a0bioadhesion\u00a0<\/a>meeting in Istanbul\u00a0in 2014 and the rest is history! \u00a0Jess is new to all of this adhesion stuff, but she is already getting &#8216;stuck in&#8217; (ha ha&#8230;.).<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for updates and exciting news from the worlds of anemones and bioadhesion,<\/p>\n<p>Nick Aldred, Marcelo Rodriguez and Jess Clarke<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;yes, the launch of our long-awaited blog! \u00a0Just in time for Christmas.
