Used from about 1640 to 1853, Ballast Hills became the resting place of more than 40,000 people from varied religious and social backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritageopendays.org.uk\/site-search.html?q=ballast+hills\">Our Heritage Open Days programme<\/a> will bring some of their stories into view through archives, activities, brewing history, self-guided exploration, music, poetry, and an atmospheric twilight visit. We will be available to answer questions and introduce some of the people and communities connected with Ballast Hills.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritageopendays.org.uk\/submission-event\/brinkburn-brewery-tour-local-brewing-history-and-ballast-hills-stories.html\">Brinkburn Brewery Tours<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>11.00 am, 12.00 noon, and 1.00 pm<\/strong><br><strong>Brinkburn St Brewery<\/strong><br><strong>Advance booking required<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tour the working brewery and discover local brewing history alongside a small display about brewing-related occupations represented among the people buried at Ballast Hills. This site-specific performance draws on the lives, losses, working experiences, and memories of people buried at Ballast Hills. Guides will share stories along the gravestone pathway while visitors move through the site at their own pace.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plan Your Visit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All events are free. Only the brewery tours require advance booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The burial ground events take place outdoors, and some areas are uneven.
