MOTHWINGS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n you ask why i keep cigarettes if\u00a0 i<\/p>\n don\u2019t smoke never notice the<\/p>\n scars\u202f beneath my clothes\u00a0 last<\/p>\n night when we argued over bread<\/p>\n you said\u202f i was weird so i just<\/p>\n pulled the sheets over me until<\/p>\n your breathing turned even then<\/p>\n tiptoed down switched the iron to<\/p>\n Linen waited for the light to go<\/p>\n out and pressed it hard against<\/p>\n my thigh\u202f\u00a0\u00a0 did it again \u2013 tip to tip<\/p>\n \u2013 a hiss of steam\u202f like it was<\/p>\n relief for the iron too \u2013 then back<\/p>\n to bed on the edge\u00a0 my\u00a0 back\u00a0\u00a0 to<\/p>\n you<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Mary Mulholland<\/strong> is completing a masters in writing poetry at\u202fNewcastle University\/ the Poetry School.
