Bridge of Samurai \u2013\u2013 beer with strangers, under blossom.<\/p>\n

Burracho\u2019s Bar:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Grilled sparrow on a stick. Flirtation with the \u2018Master\u2019, whose name I don\u2019t remember.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nara:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home of mountain deer. We drank amazake <\/em>\u2013\u2013 warm porridgey-rice wine.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Miajima:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pursued by deer again. An island, where we ate Hirsohima oysters.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yumigahama:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bow beach \u2014 so shaped, we barbequed mackerel and got engaged.<\/p>\n

Kyoto:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

By taxi to Kinkakuji. The driver, in white gloves, holding an umbrella for my mother.<\/p>\n

Fukuoka:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fu; not fuck. Karaoke \u2019till 5a.m. and hangovers in a hot-spring.<\/p>\n

Ryukyu:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home of Awamori<\/em> \u2013\u2013 an Okinawan brew, sometimes with a snake in.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shizuoka:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Still hill\u2019, located on a fault line. My home for 10 years.<\/p>\n

An earlier version of this poem appeared in the November 2018 issue of Silver Needle Press<\/em>. Alexandra Corrin-Tachibana<\/em><\/strong> came to writing poetry last year, although she recited poetry from age five, pursuing Speech and Drama training, with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.\u00a0Last year\u00a0she was shortlisted for the Fish Poetry Prize 2018. Her poems have appeared in Snakeskin<\/i>, Typishly, Silver Needle Press<\/em>, Eunoia Review<\/em> and are forthcoming in\u00a0Mothers Always Write <\/em>and Streetlight Magazine.<\/em>\u00a0In March 2019, she will be attending the AWP Conference and Book Fair in Portland, Oregon, to read her poetry and participate in a Silver Needle Press<\/em> book signing.<\/p>\n
