It was prompted by Laurent Auguste\u2019s blog of 5 July, 2012, \u201c<a title=\"Blue is the new Green\" href=\"http:\/\/growingblue.com\/2012\/07\/05\/blue-is-the-new-green-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Is The <\/a><a title=\"Blue is the new Green\" href=\"http:\/\/growingblue.com\/2012\/07\/05\/blue-is-the-new-green-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\nNew Green<\/a>\u201d, in which he argued that green economic growth might now be seen instead as water-sensitive, or blue growth.<\/div>\n<p>Auguste is President and CEO of Veolia Water Americas.\u00a0<a title=\"Growing Blue to Grow Rainbow\" href=\"http:\/\/cfgnet.org\/archives\/1099\" target=\"_blank\">Growing Blue to Grow Rainbow<\/a>\u00a0asserted that Growing Rainbow \u2014 water-nutrient-energy-sensitive growth \u2014 might be more appropriate, although indeed Growing Blue might well be the fastest and most effective path toward realizing it.<\/p>\n<p>In their latest post \u201c<a title=\"Growing Profit from Growing Rainbow\" href=\"http:\/\/cfgnet.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/downloads\/2013\/07\/Insight-8-Growing-Profit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Growing Profits from Growing Rainbow<\/a>\u201d, Bruce and Rodrigo attach some hard, monetary estimates to our earlier argument, to convey a rough sense of the cross-sectoral profit-benefit streams to flow from technological innovations in the water sector \u2014 Growing Blue, to Grow Rainbow, to Grow Profits, in other words. Their results are based on an analysis for London, UK.<\/p>\n<p>This work forms part of CFGnet\u2019s strategic analyses of innovations for transforming the metabolism of London which are being conducted jointly by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cfgnet.org\/about#beck\">Bruce Beck<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cfgnet.org\/about#rodrigo\">Rodrigo Villarroel Walker<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Georgia,\u00a0<a title=\"Jim Hall\" href=\"http:\/\/cfgnet.org\/about#jhall\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Hall<\/a>, Director of the\u00a0<a title=\"Environmental Change Institute\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eci.ox.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Change Institute<\/a>, Oxford University, UK, and <a title=\"CESER\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceser\/\" target=\"_blank\">CESER<\/a>\u00a0researchers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceg\/staff\/profile\/richard.dawson\">Richard Dawson<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceg\/staff\/profile\/oliver.heidrich\">Oliver Heidrich<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Were all four water-sector technologies to be implemented \u2014 urine separating toilets; combined treatment of kitchen waste and sewage; pyrolysis of sewage sludge; and producing algae-based biofuels from sewage \u2014 in excess of $125M in potential additional annual revenue would accrue, along with nearly $250M in expenditure reductions.
