Her\u00a0 research\u00a0 aims\u00a0 to\u00a0 further\u00a0 the understanding\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 role\u00a0 of\u00a0 climate\u00a0 variability\u00a0 and\u00a0 global warming\u00a0 on\u00a0 the\u00a0 occurrence\u00a0 of\u00a0 extreme\u00a0 weather\u00a0 events,\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 societal\u00a0 impacts. She combines observational, modelling, statistical and theoretical approaches to examine the potential impacts of climate change on heavy rainfall, flood and water resource drought risks. Her work\u00a0 ranges\u00a0 from\u00a0 interpreting\u00a0 and\u00a0 understanding\u00a0 recent\u00a0 and\u00a0 historical\u00a0 changes\u00a0 and predictions\u00a0 of\u00a0 future\u00a0 changes\u00a0 in\u00a0 extremes,\u00a0 to\u00a0 using\u00a0 this\u00a0 understanding\u00a0 to\u00a0 develop\u00a0 new\u00a0 downscaling methods\u00a0 from\u00a0 climate\u00a0 models\u00a0 that\u00a0 can\u00a0 be\u00a0 used\u00a0 in\u00a0 climate\u00a0 change\u00a0 impact\u00a0 studies.\u00a0 Examples of her work include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/sustainability\/news\/item\/heavier-summer-downpours-with-climate-change-copy\">http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/sustainability\/news\/item\/heavier-summer-downpours-with-climate-change-copy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Royal Society\u00a0is a self-governing Fellowship of many of the world\u2019s most distinguished scientists drawn from all areas of science, engineering, and medicine.
