{"id":15,"date":"2025-06-25T10:43:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T09:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/chemical-biology-special-interest-group\/?p=15"},"modified":"2025-08-05T10:44:57","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T09:44:57","slug":"natures-chemists-dr-sarah-barry-visits-newcastle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/chemical-biology-special-interest-group\/2025\/06\/25\/natures-chemists-dr-sarah-barry-visits-newcastle\/","title":{"rendered":"Nature\u2019s Chemists: Dr. Sarah Barry Visits Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On June 11th, Newcastle University\u2019s Chemical Biology Special Interest Group was delighted to host&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/people\/sarah-barry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. Sarah Barry<\/a>&nbsp;from King\u2019s College London as part of the&nbsp;<em>Inspiring Women in Chemical Biology&nbsp;<\/em>seminar series, proudly sponsored by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biochemistry.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biochemical Society<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Barry, who leads an interdisciplinary research group focused on bacterial metabolism and natural product biosynthesis, delivered an engaging seminar titled \u201cLearning from Nature\u2019s Chemists.\u201d Her talk explored how nature\u2019s own chemical strategies can inspire innovative approaches in synthetic biology and drug discovery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A highlight of the visit was a lunch with early career researchers, offering a valuable opportunity for informal discussion for PhD students, postdocs and fellows.
