{"id":44,"date":"2025-11-25T09:20:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T09:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/chemical-biology-special-interest-group\/?p=44"},"modified":"2025-11-25T09:21:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T09:21:31","slug":"clare-mahon-delivers-talk-in-the-inspiring-women-in-chembio-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/chemical-biology-special-interest-group\/2025\/11\/25\/clare-mahon-delivers-talk-in-the-inspiring-women-in-chembio-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof Clare Mahon Delivers\u00a0Talk in the Inspiring Women in\u00a0ChemBio\u00a0Series"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As part of the Inspiring Women in Chemical Biology seminar series, sponsored by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biochemistry.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biochemical Society<\/a>, Newcastle University recently hosted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.durham.ac.uk\/staff\/clare-mahon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Prof. Clare Mahon<\/a>&nbsp;from Durham University, whose work is at the&nbsp;cutting edge&nbsp;of chemical biology and infectious disease diagnostics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clare\u2019s talk, titled&nbsp;<strong>\u201c<\/strong>Glycopolymer&nbsp;sensor arrays to detect&nbsp;pathoadaptations&nbsp;in&nbsp;<em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em>,<strong>\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;explored a critical issue in microbiology:&nbsp;the ability of bacterial pathogens to evolve and diversify within hosts, leading to persistent infections that are notoriously difficult to treat.&nbsp;The implications are profound.
