Travel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can fly direct into Newcastle International Airport<\/a> from London, Amsterdam and Paris. If you fly into London, Glasgow, Edinburgh or Manchester, you can easily reach Newcastle by train<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newcastle is a very walkable city, with a metro<\/a> and bus<\/a> service. Uber and a number of taxi<\/a> services operate in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are lots of hotels in Newcastle. You can search for hotels that meet your needs using the NewcastleGateshead Initiative (NGI)\u2019s online directory and search tool.<\/a> There are also many other options in the city, including major UK hotel chains (Travelodge, Premier Inn, etc.) and hostels<\/a>. If you’re not sure where to start, I’d recommend checking out booking.com<\/a> (a European travel website that’s a bit like AirBnB, but mostly for hotels and hostels). If you’re on a budget, Newcastle Central Travelodge<\/a> and Newcastle City Centre (The Gate) Premier Inn<\/a> are both part of established hotel chains and are very cheap. Both are conveniently located near the train station (and an approximately 20-25 minute walk from the Percy Building on campus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within an hour\u2019s travel from Newcastle are: the tidal island of Lindisfarne<\/a>; the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Durham<\/a> and Hadrian\u2019s Wall<\/a>; the famous bookstores of the market towns of Alnwick<\/a> and Carlisle<\/a>; and plenty of hiking<\/a> and wildlife<\/a> destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
