{"id":39,"date":"2024-07-03T10:55:47","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T09:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/commemoratingthecentenaryofthegeneralstrike1926\/?page_id=39"},"modified":"2025-07-11T21:47:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T20:47:50","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/commemoratingthecentenaryofthegeneralstrike1926\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>REMEMBER 1926<\/strong><br>WHAT SHOULD WE BE DOING TO COMMEMORATE THE CENTENARY OF THE GENERAL STRIKE 1926?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WHO WE ARE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the year 2026 approaches, Newcastle University\u2019s Labour &amp; Society Research Group (LSRG) and Oral History Unit &amp; Collective (OHU&amp;C) are thinking about how the General Strike ought to be commemorated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Remember 1926 group share an interest in exploring the history and memories of organised labour and industrial action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We strive to include those voices too often marginalised in representations of the past.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With the above in mind, we are seeking to commemorate the centenary of one of the most important European industrial disputes of the twentieth century.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OUR AIM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope our participation at this year\u2019s Durham Miners&#8217; Gala (2024) will encourage people to get in touch with their own photographs, family stories and memorabilia to help shed light on the General Strike 1926.
