With your help we are trying to reassess the action and its place in<br>our collective memory, as well as appreciate the aspirations and attitudes of<br>those who participated. To that extent, we are attempting to commemorate and<br>catch the last voices and their echoes over time from 1926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>WHO WE ARE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As the year 2026 approaches, Newcastle University\u2019s Labour &amp; Society<br>Research Group (LSRG) and Oral History Unit &amp; Collective (OHU&amp;C) are<br>thinking about how the General Strike ought to be commemorated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Remember 1926 group share an interest in exploring the history and memories of organised labour and industrial action. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We strive to include those voices too often marginalised in representations of the past.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With the above in mind, we are seeking to commemorate the centenary of one of the most important European industrial disputes of the twentieth century.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>OUR AIM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We hope our participation at this year\u2019s Durham Miners&#8217; Gala (2024) will encourage people to get in touch with their own photographs, family stories and memorabilia to help shed<br>light on the General Strike 1926.
