{"id":44,"date":"2020-07-06T10:36:57","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T09:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/cosmology\/?page_id=44"},"modified":"2026-07-03T13:23:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T12:23:26","slug":"fellowships","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/cosmology\/fellowships\/","title":{"rendered":"Fellowships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University welcomes applications for postdoctoral fellowships to be hosted here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senior Fellowships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in applying for either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;the <a href=\"https:\/\/stfc.ukri.org\/funding\/fellowships\/ernest-rutherford-fellowship\/\">STFC Ernest Rutherford Fellowship<\/a>, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> the <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsociety.org\/grants-schemes-awards\/grants\/university-research\/\">Royal Society University Research Fellowship<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>to be hosted at Newcastle University, please submit a preliminary application by the <strong>deadline of July 7th, 202<\/strong>6. Applications should be submitted via an email addressed to <strong><strong><em>Natasha.Hull@newcastle.ac.uk<\/em><\/strong><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The preliminary application should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A full CV including your full publication list<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 3 page draft proposal, including your justification for resources (e.g. travel, computing, etc)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 2-page cover letter (include Why Newcastle and who you may work with)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Junior and Flexible Fellowships <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We welcome applications for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/stephen-hawking-fellowships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stephen Hawking Fellowship<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>EPSRC &amp; STFC have re-opened their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/stephen-hawking-postdoctoral-fellowship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stephen Hawking Postdoctoral Fellowship<\/a> focusing on a range of disciplines in the area of theoretical physics with the aim of reflecting Stephen Hawking\u2019s work in bringing science into popular culture. You must hold a PhD (or equivalent experience) by the start of the fellowship and there is no limit on number of years of postdoctoral experience, but it is aim at postdoctoral level. Fellowships are for three years. Please encourage applicants through your networks, including outside of Newcastle University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leverhulme.ac.uk\/early-career-fellowships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship<\/a> and <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The School of Maths, Stats &amp; Physics is soliciting expressions of interest to apply to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leverhulme.ac.uk\/early-career-fellowships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/royalcommission1851.org\/fellowships\/research-fellowships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Royal Commission of 1851 Research Fellowship<\/a> schemes. Both schemes are aimed at early stage postdoctoral researchers, between about to complete their PhD and typically not more than 4 and 3 years post PhD, respectively. Each fellowship is for three years. If you are interested in applying to be hosted by the School, please submit a 2-page Outline proposal together with CV for consideration for selection, to <a href=\"mailto:Jarlath.mckenna@newcastle.ac.uk\">Holly.Davidson@newcastle.ac.uk<\/a> by <strong>5 December 2022<\/strong>.
