Meet our member: Patient and Public Engagement and Involvement in Musculoskeletal Research (PIMS)

PIMS is involved with learning about the musculoskeletal research taking place in Newcastle Hospitals (although we’re open to members from further afield) and having an input into what is done and how. We feel passionate that people with the conditions should be included in the research about them.

We’re based at the Freeman Hospital and have hybrid meetings quarterly (January, April, July and October) where researchers present their projects and ask for feedback on various aspects. We have lots of other projects running in between and send out monthly communications to let members know what’s going on.

We work with patients, carers, and interested members of the public who have musculoskeletal conditions. Our work is supported by the musculoskeletal and inflammation theme of the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre.

You can contact us to:

You don’t need to have any experience, just enthusiasm. There are lots of different ways to get involved (in person or remotely) and how much you do is up to you!

Area that we cover:

Our members are mainly from the North East, but also from throughout the UK. We work with researchers from Newcastle Hospitals, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities.
