Meet our members: NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC)

The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC) is a research partnership that brings together researchers from six regional universities, practitioners from health and social care and the voluntary sector, community groups, members of the public, and many others. We work together to develop research evidence that can be applied within our health and care system to improve care, prevent illness, promote wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities.

You can contact us to:

  • Join our ARC as a network member, to receive regular updates on our latest research, events, and wider funding opportunities.
  • Join our ARC as a public advisor and share your lived experience.
  • Find out more about the research evidence we’ve developed and how it’s being used.

Meaningful public involvement is at the heart of everything we do, and we work closely with members of the public, patients, and community groups to ensure that our research is grounded in real-world, lived experience.

Area that we cover:

Our Applied Research Collaboration covers the North East and North Cumbria region. As well as our regional focus, we lead national research into prevention, early intervention, and behaviour changes; and in reducing health and care inequalities. We are one of 15 ARCs in England, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
