Industrial Involvement

Guest Lecture

We offer a selection of modules in the MSc. Modules often feature a guest lecturer from a relevant organisation in the field. We are always looking for new collaborations, so organisations are welcome to contact us if they wish to engage with our students.

If you are interested to give a guest lecture in the MSc please contact the directors of the programme at computing.datascience@newcastle.ac.uk. We appreciate your interest in advancing education and fostering collaboration.

Career Opportunities

We often receive job offers from our collaborators. Any organisation is welcome to send us a link to share job offers with our students.

If you wish to share a job offer please contact John Lockey from the student engagement team at john.lockey@newcastle.ac.uk.

Group Project: Data Science in the Wild

The module Data Science in the Wild (Group Project) covers the principles of research and professional skills that are essential to Data Science practice. The taught content is complemented by practical experience where the students embed themselves in a suitable institute or immerse themselves in a research area to gain domain knowledge. Insights gained from this experience are then used to propose a Data Science project within that company, institute or area of research and evaluate the merits of the proposal based on each of taught topics listed.

This module happens around February time. More information is available on the Data Science in The Wild module page.

Organisations that wish to propose a project can contact the module leader Tatiana Alvares-Sanches at tatiana.alvares-sanches@newcastle.ac.uk.

Dissertation Project

From the end of April to mid-August, students will work individually on a research project. Organisations can propose their own projects and accompany the students through this journey.

It is a practical and popular technique to get to know our students in order to work with them in the future. Companies can read more about the process of engaging in an industrial dissertation on the industrial placement page or access the outcomes of last year’s project on the poster event page.

If your organisation is interested in hosting a student for their MSc project, please fill-in this Project Sign-up Form and we will get in touch with you.
