{"id":373,"date":"2023-11-10T15:49:37","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T15:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/dig\/?p=373"},"modified":"2023-11-10T15:49:37","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T15:49:37","slug":"lighting-up-kings-gate-for-the-international-day-of-people-with-disabilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/dig\/2023\/11\/10\/lighting-up-kings-gate-for-the-international-day-of-people-with-disabilities\/","title":{"rendered":"Lighting up King&#8217;s Gate for the International Day of People with Disabilities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday 1st December we will light up the King&#8217;s Gate building purple to mark the <a href=\"https:\/\/idpwd.org\/\">International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day is a United Nations initiative for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Celebration \u2013 to recognize and value the diversity of our global community, and to cherish the role we all play, regardless of our abilities;<\/li><li>Learning \u2013 to understand and learn from the experiences of people with living with a disability;<\/li><li>It is a day for optimism \u2013 to look towards the future and the creation of a world where a person is not characterised by their disabilities, but by their abilities;<\/li><li>Action \u2013 where all people, organisations, agencies and charities not only show their support for International Day of People with Disabilities, but take on a commitment to create a world characterised by equal human rights.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re near the King&#8217;s Gate building on the day and fancy taking a selfie with the lit-up building, share it with the hashtag <strong>#PurpleLightUp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(It&#8217;s lost on me because I can&#8217;t see purple, but it&#8217;s the thought that counts!)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday 1st December we will light up the King&#8217;s Gate building purple to mark the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD).
