He previously received\u00a0his PhD in Computing Science also from\u00a0Newcastle University, where he subsequently worked as a Research Associate, Teaching Fellow, Lecturer (Assistant Professor), and Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His research interests are mainly in the development of Trusted Distributed Smart applications using technologies such as Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Smart Contracts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trust mechanisms in distributed systems such as the Cloud, Internet of Things, and Social Media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simulation tools for\u00a0Cloud and the Internet of things (IoT) applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Online educational applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human-Computer aspects of Social media and electronic commerce. applications\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Software verification and testing frameworks in distributed systems.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellis is a Fellow of the the BCS, Senior Fellow of the Higher&nbsp;Education Academy&nbsp;(SFHEA), and Academic Accreditation Lead for the School of Computing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previous roles included Degree Programme Director for the MSc Computer Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He supervises a number of PhD students.
