Service Error Generic

Recently we’ve encountered a few problems with the Error Message “Service Error Generic” which seems to pop up at random intervals while using Endnote. Sometimes if you’re in Word, it seems as if everything has stopped and it’s often because this error message has popped up in Endnote and is hidden behind your Word document. John East at Queensland alerted me to the FAQ on the Endnote web pages (see link above) which explains how to deal with it. We’ll also be linking to this from our Top Tips pages soon.

Business Source Premier

We have just updated our instructions for downloading from Business Source Premier.
You can now directly download your records into EndNote without saving a separate file and downloading using a filter.

So much easier!

New instructions are :

Use the Internet Explorer browser
Logon to Business Source Premier in the usual way
Search using your desired key words
Use the Add to folder option on the right to add the references you want to your folder
Click on Folder has items, on the top right hand corner
Your references will now display in a list in a new window. Click on Export.
In the new window, under Save citations to a file formatted for : select the radio button beside Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager . Then click on the Save button.
The EndNote software will now open on your desktop. Choose the library you wish the references to be transferred into. Once you have selected and opened the desired library, the references will appear.

Books about Endnote

We don’t have proper paper copies of the Endnote X manual for loan in the Library as it is available as a pdf with the software on the network. However, it is a very large file. Paper copies are available for reference in my office in the Robinson Library and also via Linda Simpson in the Walton Library.
However, there are some books about Endnote available for reference and loan:
Endnote 1-2-3 Easy is at 005.74AGR in QR Level 4 (plus a loan copy at 005.74END)
Manuscript writing using Endnote and Word is at 371.30281AGR Study skills L4 (loan at 371.30281EDH)
