EndNote X4

The University Clusters and RAS will be upgrading to EX4 within the next few weeks. The main versions of EndNote which will then be available on campus will be EX1 (with Office 2007) and EX4 (with Office 2007 or 2010) This means that the Library will no longer offer detailed support for EndNote X and Office 2003, though we will retain the workbooks and other help on our web pages.
All workshops running in future will be based on EX4 whenever possible.

Importing references from 2010 or later

Please note, when importing references from 2010 or later from databases and/or other electronic resources you may find that the date is not brought across correctly and instead the Year field in the record remains blank.

If this happens, please either add the year manually or see this webpage for further information:
http://www.endnote.com/support/faqs/Import/faq20.asp

This problem should be rectified when ISS and the University Library upgrade to the latest version of EndNote in the future so please bear with us whilst we work on this.

Endnote disappearing from Word ribbon on logoff

We have had a few queries recently about the EndNote tab disappearing from the ribbon in Word each time users logoff. Configuring Endnote does not seem to work. This problem seems to occur for people who are using the Vista operating system. It is mentioned on the (external)Endnote web site as having a few bugs. At the moment the EndNote team in the Library don’t have access to Vista to test this theory, but we are waiting for our technicians to provide it for us, hopefully this week. Once they do, we will test it with both EX1 and the new EX2, because the Endnote pages indicate that the problem is resolved with EX2. IF that is the case, as soon as we are in a position to support EX2 (this means developing workbooks and other supporting resources and expertise), we will be able to recommend to ISS that it is released in the University.

In the meantime, if you work within the RAS environment, rather than directly on the local network, we think this will solve the problem. Please also note that if you buy your own copy of Endnote for use on a personal laptop, you will be provided with EX2.
