The Harvard at Newcastle and the MHRA-Newcastle styles have both been updated on the network PCs to reflect corrected errors which had been pointed out to us by users
Importing references from Google Scholar
It is possible to import references from Google Scholar into EndNote.
In Google Scholar, click on Scholar Preferences, scroll down and under Bibliography Manager click on “show links to enable import into EndNote”.
When you do a search in Scholar, you’ll then see a link in each result to “Import into EndNote”. Clicking on the link opens EndNote and allows you to choose the Library to import the reference into.
At present I can only see how to do this one reference at a time.
RefWorks trial
We currently (until 10th Jan 2008)have trial access to RefWorks, an alternative bibliographical software package to EndNote. I’d like some feedback from people who are using EndNote about what they think of this software, so if you have time to try it out, please contact me (moira.bent@ncl.ac.uk) and I’ll send you log in details to get you started.
Thanks
Moira
Downloading from databases on RAS fixed
Scopus and RAS
We have discovered that when using Scopus and Endnote on the RAS, trying to download references from Scopus is slightly different. Once you have chosen the export format, a window appears with the options “Find”, “Save” and “Cancel” (instead of “Open”).
To save your references into Endnote you need to choose the “Save” option and save them to your filespace.
Open your Endnote library and click on File, Import.
Click on the Choose File option and find the file you saved.
Under Import Option choose Reference Manager(RIS)
Click on Import.
If you use Scopus on the network, it still works as before.
RAS on machines in Internet cafes and other machines where you can’t install Citrix
If you want to use EndNote via RAS, but have to use a PC on which you can’t install the Citrix software, follow these instructions from ISS and it should still work.
EndNote support ; Valerie Stuart
I am very pleased to welcome Valerie Stuart to the University. Valerie has joined the Staff Development Unit and will be running EndNote workshops for staff. She comes with a wealth of expertise in EndNote from her previous job so I’m sure she’s going to make a valuable contribution to EndNote support here at Newcastle. As part of the EndNote Support Group, she will also be posting regular messages on the blog.

Problem with Endnote on RAS!!
There seems to be a problem with Endnote on RAS at present – it will not let us change the folder locations to use styles on our personal file space. ISS have been unable to solve it and we’re waiting for help from the EndNote technical support team. Endnote is still working fine on cluster PCs, it is just RAS that has the problem
Downloading into Endnote
Just a reminder that there are lots of sets of instructions for how to download references from different electronic resources on the Endnote web pages
If your favourite resource isn’t there please let us know and we’ll see if we can add it
