{"id":473,"date":"2016-12-13T11:00:24","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T11:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/erdp\/?p=473"},"modified":"2016-12-13T11:05:13","modified_gmt":"2016-12-13T11:05:13","slug":"psychology-enterprise-challenge-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/erdp\/2016\/12\/13\/psychology-enterprise-challenge-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Psychology Enterprise Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stage 1 Psychology students recently took part in an Enterprise Challenge, the initiative aimed to develop psychological literacy and enterprising skills.\u00a0 The event was supported by Rise Up from the Careers Service and One Voice, a nationwide charity who support communication aid users and their friends and families.\u00a0\u00a0 Students were tasked with creating practical solutions to the challenges faced by individuals (and their families) supported by One Voice.\u00a0 Students worked in their mentor groups to develop their ideas and were encouraged to think about their knowledge of developmental and social psychology to inform their ideas. They then filmed their pitches many of which focussed on the link between an individual\u2019s voice, their expression of self.\u00a0 Feedback from the event showed that the majority of students felt they had enhanced their experience of applying psychology in real world contexts.\u00a0 In addition the students felt they had developed their team work and problem solving skills.\u00a0 Charity representatives judging the pitches commented on how well all the students had engaged with the topic and really thought about what would be useful.\u00a0 The winning pitch, an idea called \u2018Your Voice\u2019 allowed users to tailor the voice produced by their communication to help reflect the individual\u2019s personality.
