Tips from Dan
To ensure that we make the best use of resources (staff time, costs and recycling) it is important declutter your office of waste as soon as possible. “Little and often” is the motto. Start small with bite sized bits but do it often- every day do a little bit. Keep it up stay focussed and before long you will be clutter free ready for smart working.
Here are some common wastes which are easy to dispose of
1.Non confidential paper products
Please put any paper products into clear and translucent plastic bags (available from your cleaning operative) and put into large blue wheelie bins which will be appearing on the ground floor next week. All paper products can be recycled, including catalogues, books, directories and envelopes. See further guidance here: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/estates/services/waste/disposal/PaperRecycling.htm
2.Confidential paper waste
Please put all confidential waste in the blue wheelie bins marked “Confidential Waste” which will be sited around 1st and 2nd floors next week. How do you know if something is confidential? Check guidance here: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/estates/services/waste/disposal/ConfidentialWaste.htm . Please only put confidential waste into these bins. This disposal route is expensive and putting paper in that is not confidential is a waste of money.
3.Lever Arch files
When lots of paper is being disposed of we generate a lot of reusable files and folders. These are given to students and charity. Please put all files and folders in boxes or bags and put in downstairs room where the photocopier used to be. I will clear this area daily.
4.Other Wastes
For all other wastes I have developed a guide which is designed to help you incorporate this process into your normal working life: See www.ncl.ac.uk/springclean
