{"id":464,"date":"2018-09-11T21:18:52","date_gmt":"2018-09-11T20:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/?p=464"},"modified":"2018-10-04T16:06:08","modified_gmt":"2018-10-04T15:06:08","slug":"do-you-want-a-rainbow-lanyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/2018\/09\/11\/do-you-want-a-rainbow-lanyard\/","title":{"rendered":"Do you want\u00a0a Rainbow Lanyard?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, as part of Newcastle University\u2019s Pride celebrations,\u00a0a small number of\u00a0rainbow lanyards were distributed around the Faculty\u00a0and University.\u00a0The response to them was overwhelming, so we\u2019ve ordered a lot more!\u00a0Over 2000 of these\u00a0colourful rainbow lanyards\u00a0are now being distributed, so keep an eye out across\u00a0the\u00a0campus to\u00a0make\u00a0sure you get one!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-385 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/07\/Lanyard-flyers-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/07\/Lanyard-flyers-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/07\/Lanyard-flyers-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/07\/Lanyard-flyers-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/07\/Lanyard-flyers.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, t<span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">hese aren\u2019<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">t just a fashion accessory: wearing one shows your support for our LGBT+ staff and students across the University.\u00a0We admit that they are very pretty and the colours are\u00a0certainly\u00a0striking, but they also have meaning: the lanyards sport the\u00a0six colours of the rainbow\u00a0flag, with the addition of brown and\u00a0black\u00a0to promote inclusion of Black and Asian members of the LGBT+\u00a0community. Wearing a rainbow lanyard signifies your commitment to provide a working and study environment where our LGBT+ staff and students feel safe, comfortable and included. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The lanyards were designed by our new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.sharepoint.com\/hub\/medical\/equality\/Pages\/Rainbow@Newcastle.aspx\">Rainbow@ncl Network<\/a> to raise awareness around LGBT+\u00a0issues, and we will be working closely with them over the coming year to make our Faculty more inclusive.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to know more about\u00a0what the\u00a0rainbow flag represents,\u00a0and\u00a0why it\u2019s important to take pride in wearing a rainbow lanyard, you can read an<span style=\"line-height: 1.5\">\u00a0earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/2018\/07\/17\/pride-in-newcastle-university\/\">post<\/a> or see our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmsdiversity\/files\/2018\/09\/flyer.pdf\">flyer<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you have any further questions about the rainbow lanyards\u00a0or our Faculty\u2019s work around LGBT+ inclusion,\u00a0please\u00a0don\u2019t hesitate to contact our\u00a0Faculty\u00a0EDI Team.
