The file names need to be identical and uploaded to the same folder for the &#8220;replace&#8221; option to appear. You can use &#8216;Link Options&#8217; to make the file open a preview by default so the page has the appearance of a directly added file but you have the following benefits over adding the file directly: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"list-style-position: outside; wp-block-list\"><li>Able to add notes or comments above or below the file<\/li><li>The page title does not have to be the file name<\/li><li>Any links will be directed to this page so you can update the file\/page as many times as needed and links to the content will still work<\/li><li>You can create an archive at the bottom of the page for previous file versions<\/li><li>Canvas can notify students of changes to the page\/file<\/li><li>You have access to the page history so you can roll back to previous versions <\/li><li>You can add multiple files to one location<\/li><li>You can add a to-do deadline to the students to do lists and calendars<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to use the file availability options mentioned in the previous method you may want to add a message on the page stating when the file will be available as the message canvas provides is not very informative:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1856\" width=\"512\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1.png 1950w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1-300x113.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1-1024x387.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1-768x290.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1-1536x581.png 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2022\/09\/availabity-inline-1-1200x454.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 85vw, 512px\" \/><figcaption>Canvas Message: The document preview is currently being processed.
