FMS TEL worked with Iain on this course and he highlighted how helpful it has been to work alongside FMS TEL to bring the course to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Software and Systems <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We explained how you can <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/02\/28\/create-your-own-wordpress-blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">create your own WordPress blog<\/a>, and presented our experience of running this blog to the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/02\/21\/blogging-getting-started-and-keeping-it-going\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Directors of Education Forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With all the discussion of AI and ChatGPT, we blogged about <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/02\/21\/blogging-getting-started-and-keeping-it-going\/\" target=\"_blank\">ChatGPT<\/a>, what it is and how it works. We reviewed <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/10\/24\/presentations-powered-by-a-i-gamma-app-review\/\" target=\"_blank\">AI Gamma.app<\/a>, which is a tool for generating presentations, documents or web pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were invited to review <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/02\/02\/an-invitation-to-review-audience-interaction-systems-ais\/\" target=\"_blank\">Audience Interaction System<\/a>, and we profiled the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/05\/09\/fms-feedback-from-excel-sheets-to-detailed-online-feedback\/\" target=\"_blank\">FMS Feedback System<\/a>, produced by our development team in FMS TEL.<br><br>We attended a great presentation on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/08\/29\/gigxr\/\" target=\"_blank\">GigXR<\/a>, which is a clinical simulation platform. It is an immersive technology which projects 3D holographic objects, which you can interact with when wearing a headset. We also introduced a new tool for PowerPoint which allows you to put a live video feed into PowerPoint: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/09\/19\/introducing-cameo-for-powerpoint\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cameo for PowerPoint<\/a>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips and Guides <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We published a series called <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/01\/17\/how-did-you-do-that-so-fast-introducing-taking-ctrl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taking Ctrl<\/a>, which details keyboard shortcuts you can use to perform some actions. Here is an example: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/01\/24\/taking-ctrl-paste-text-without-formatting\/\">Taking Ctrl: Paste text without Formatting<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We posted some advice on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/03\/16\/spring-clean-your-digital-clutter\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spring cleaning your digital clutter<\/a>, such as tidying up teams and One Drive, and we provided tips on displaying meetings in your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/06\/13\/declining-and-keeping-meetings-in-outlook-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\">Outlook Calendars<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had a special guest post by <em>Module Leader David Thewli<\/em>s discussing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/05\/16\/using-overlays-to-make-engaging-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Overlays in videos<\/a> using <em>OpenShot Video Editor<\/em>. We also featured work with <em>Associate Lecturer  Ann Johnson<\/em> on developing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/07\/25\/developing-online-asynchronous-materials-an-associate-lecturers-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\">Online Asynchronous Materials<\/a> and looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/07\/19\/case-study-unconscious-bias-in-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unconscious Bias in Healthcare<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prompted by an enquiry from Michelle&#8217;s poster presentation we detailed <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/08\/22\/adding-audio-to-pdf-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\">how to add audio to pdf documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We presented a case study on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/08\/15\/giving-new-life-to-an-old-presentation-a-module-revamp-case-study\/\" target=\"_blank\">Giving life to old presentations<\/a>, showcased a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/11\/14\/case-study-onc8030-branching-activity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Branching Activity<\/a>, bringing an exercise to life with videos in H5P and Canvas, and showcased some of our other favourite creations in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/2023\/04\/18\/fms-%e2%9d%a4-h5p\/\" target=\"_blank\">H5P<\/a>, such as  interactive videos and 360 tours. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Michelle Miller Tributes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2023\/11\/3501712-64998cab.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3186\" width=\"128\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2023\/11\/3501712-64998cab.jpg 286w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/fmstel\/files\/2023\/11\/3501712-64998cab-238x300.jpg 238w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 128px) 85vw, 128px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:70%\">\n<p>We&#8217;d like to take this opportunity to also pay tribute to our colleague Dr Michelle Miller, who sadly passed away in June of this year. Michelle was our <em>Student Digital Skills Officer<\/em>, training FMS students in writing long documents, using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and much more. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are comments from some members of our team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span style=\"color:#ad8a3d\" class=\"has-inline-color\">It was an absolute pleasure to work with Michelle. She was a ray of light who lit up the whole room. I loved her positive outlook on life (no matter what she was going through), and her passion for cats.<\/span><\/p><cite>Tracy Connell<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span style=\"color:#4ec4d7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Such a truly lovely lady, and a big miss from the team.<\/span><br><span style=\"color:#4ec4d7\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Will raise a Guinness to her soon.<\/span><\/p><cite><em>Ash Reynolds<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-bright-red-color\">Her empty desk is a cheerful nod to the vibrant presence she brought to our office. Always ready to help, she played a key role in my growth, both professionally and personally. I am very grateful for the impact she had on me.<\/span><\/p><cite><em>Emily Smith<\/em><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-bright-blue-color\">Michelle was an esteemed colleague who is a huge miss both in our TEL team, and across many of the schools that she supported. She was selfless and always willing to help.
