Entitled \u2018A Higher Purpose: Newcastle University at War\u2019, Archivist Ian Johnson\u00a0explores how the buildings were requisitioned and became the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Northern General Hospital,\u00a0treating\u00a0over 40,000 servicemen\u00a0from 1914 to 1919. Find out what life was like on these wards,\u00a0the work of a\u00a0surgeon who\u00a0went on to\u00a0invent\u00a0Lucozade, and some of the stories of the\u00a0estimated 276 students, alumni, and staff who lost their lives in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>This hour long\u00a0talk will commence at 6pm\u00a0on Level 1 of the Robinson Library, Room 152.
