Saw this today (courtesy of Savas) – LOL!
Monthly Archives: August 2006
Yawn….
…bored.
Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now!
Busy day yesterday – 4 meetings! – surely there should only be a maximum of 3 allowed in any one day? [Only one today – albeit at 8am.]
Got a nice surprise when I went home as I have (at long last) managed to find a copy of the Steven Wright HBO special from 1985 on dvd – arrived from the States yesterday. Excellent! π
Anyway, intended to surf the web and drink wine last night, while watching Raiders of the Lost Ark – this was in a vain attempt to get me into an ‘archaeological frame of mind’ (if there is such a thing) in order to complete my last assignment. However, there seemed to be something wrong with my wireless connection at home, sat for 2 hours checking everything but couldn’t figure it out. Anyway, I got to the bit when Harrison Ford just shoots Terry Richards after his masterly display as a sword-wielding assassin – class! – then gave up. Maybe pipex had problems last night? …I just hope next time I try it, it suddenly works.
Although it’s a short week this week, it was MOST depressing coming back after a week off (was a good week tho) and then the bank holiday. Our office was FREEEEZING on Tuesday too so I was sitting in my coat for the best part of the day. Warmer now but we have a heater on today.
Can you tell I don’t want to do any work today? Hmmm…nearly lunchtime! π
Good News:
Just had a 7-hour lunch in the Slug & Lettuce on the Quayside – scrummy food, lots of wine and a damn good laugh. I love catching up with old friends. π
Bad News:
Back to work after a week off, tomorrow.
Bleergh, roll-on friday.

Library Book RANT!
I spent about four hours today going through half a dozen books on archaeology that I got out of the Robinson Library…the length of time this took had more to do with the fact that it was difficult to read them.
What possesses people to deface a book that belongs to a library? Especially in a University – surely it’s adults who borrow them?
Yes, I highlight and make notes in margins when I’m studying…but that’s because the books are bought and paid for by me!!
I wouldn’t dream of even using pencil and then erasing the marks – IF THE BOOK DOESN’T BELONG TO ME!
Why doesn’t the library flick through the books on return and then check who had them out last?.
It’s not good. π
WOW!
I’ve just discovered that Chelmsford 123…
[which may not have scaled quite the same heights as Blackadder but was a deserved success]
…is due for release on R2 DVD on 25th September – yey!
For some reason, it’s the ‘Dopey the Frog’-related episode that sticks in my mind π

Cinema RANT!
I used to really enjoy going to the cinema, but now I’m lucky if I don’t have someone kicking the back of my chair, or talking throughout the entire movie, or checking their mobile phone in front of me so that I end up blinded every 2 minutes. When I was younger I wouldn’t dare disrupt someone’s viewing pleasure, it would be more than my life was worth where my parents were concerned. Not only that, in my day (cue violin!), the cinema would have a member of staff in the auditorium who would glare at you the moment you stepped out of line!!!!
Now cinemas don’t have any staff in there – not even the pre-pubescent oiks!!
It’s really sad because going to the cinema use to be such a wonderful experience, now, no matter how much I like the movie, I usually can’t wait to leave. π
If I ever have kids, I’m going to have them ‘bound and gagged’ until they learn how to behave in a cinema. Kids now just wander in, sit down and then fling their legs across the seats in front… aaargh! it just makes me want to break them!
Anyway, I’ve had my ‘Victor Meldrew’ moment. If I’m ever up on a charge for breaking someone’s legs, you know why.
“Snakes on a Plane”
- Classification: 15 (yey! – something that’s not 12A!)
- Runtime: 105 min
- UK release date: 18/8/2006
- Directed by: David R. Ellis
- Starring: Byron Lawson, Nathan Phillips and Samuel L. Jackson
[BBFC Consumer Advice – Contains strong language, sex and bloody violence.]
Plot:
An FBI agent escorting an eyewitness on a flight has to deal with a plane full of deadly snakes released by the criminal who wants the witness dead.
Hm…, I have to say, I enjoyed it. I sat in the cinema and was extremely tense for the first 80 mins, too much was happening at once and there seemed a lot of unnecessary ‘snake wandering’ around people’s bodies (you’ll know what I mean if you go to see the film).
However, there was a fair few “jumpy-outy moments” which is what you’d expect with a thriller and Samuel L Jackson was fantastic. The end was really funny (on purpose) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you like Samuel L Jackson – just go and see it; it’s a lot better than I expected considering I only went to see the film because of the title (it does exactly what it says on the tin!).

Is it time to get up yet?
Well, been a week or two since my last post, been a bit busy – so sleep (rather than blogging) has become more important. So…what’s happened?
I attended the Fire Training course, have to admit, it was a lot more exciting than the last one I attended about 3 years ago. The Fire Officer was really enthusiastic so that always helps.
Oh yes, wasps! Little b*ggers! Had to get a man out to destroy a wasps nest – there was a teeny-tiny hole in the eve of the roof – but they found it! So I’d been rushing around (or is that away from?) them for about 2 weeks. Quite scary (2nd time I’ve had wasps in my house, last time it was in the extension of the house) – ugh! They’re terrifying when you suddenly realise you’re in a room with them. At least they weren’t in the bathroom this time! π
While on the topic, what is the point of wasps? Bees are fine, they pollenate flowers, they make honey and they only sting you as a last resort…but wasps, they just sting anything…just for a laugh, because they’re evil little b*ggers.
“Bees make honey.
How do they do that?
Do earwigs make chutney?
Do spiders make gravy?”
Wasps sting anything – and then they go back to their nest and make… NOTHING! They just smoke dope all day long… all through the summer… so in the autumn you just get the odd wasp stoned out of his brain wandering across your carpet! Hm, getting a bit Eddie Izzard there, but he’s right. Wasps are pointless.
I went to a Sundown gig at the Newcastle Falcons Rugby club in Kingston Park, last week, it was an all-afternoon thing but as it started late (organisers forgot to provide a generator – doh!) I joined it after work. Free beer and free Nando’s Chicken – it was class! Unfortunately, the locals objected to the volume of the Bhangra DJ who was also playing a little later, so the council “asked for the event to close earlier”. Just as well, it was starting to get a bit cold by that point – what ever happened to August?
Oh, I had a marriage proposal, that was slightly unexpected. Although, gracefully declined, it’s nice to be asked π And while on that topic, Dawn and Graham’s wedding (11th) was great – just like a ‘fairytale’. Literally – there was even a wicked witch and a frog – but at the end of the evening I gained a handsome prince which is always a bonus… but I digress.
The best thing is that I’m off work this week – yey! No daytime plans, just studying, sleeping and exercising but I’m out each night till after the bank holiday now, so it’s a good job I can lie-in!! I love holidays! I fully intend to have some marathon ‘dvd box set” watching sessions – seen all three Back to the Future‘s and Pride & Prejudice so far. π
Well, speaking of which, I reckon I’m gonna watch a dvd as I feel wide awake. It’s either Dogma or 50 First Dates – will see which one I can find first.
night all!
