{"id":519,"date":"2014-12-08T12:31:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-08T12:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/geospatialengineering\/?p=519"},"modified":"2014-12-09T10:04:13","modified_gmt":"2014-12-09T10:04:13","slug":"sankey-diagram-of-cobalt-life-cycle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/geospatialengineering\/2014\/12\/08\/sankey-diagram-of-cobalt-life-cycle\/","title":{"rendered":"Sankey diagram of cobalt life-cycle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Working with colleagues <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceg\/staff\/profile\/alistair.ford\">Ali Ford<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceg\/staff\/profile\/oliver.heidrich\">Oliver Heidrich<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ceg\/staff\/profile\/david.manning\">David Manning<\/a> on various papers and proposals, we have started to pull together a Sankey diagram of the reported tonnages of cobalt in 2012 through various processing stages within its life cycle. The orange and green colours denote the quantities of cobalt reported by the respective importing or exporting countries, but we have aggregated to the continent level. This information was extracted from the UN COMTRADE database and linked to eSankey! software via an intermediate Excel spreadsheet.
