{"id":45,"date":"2014-05-22T16:27:05","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T15:27:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ibuild\/?p=45"},"modified":"2014-05-22T16:29:48","modified_gmt":"2014-05-22T15:29:48","slug":"ibuild-professor-charles-ainger-to-speak-to-the-school-of-civil-engineering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ibuild\/2014\/05\/22\/ibuild-professor-charles-ainger-to-speak-to-the-school-of-civil-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"#ibuild Professor Charles Ainger to speak to the School of Civil Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Birmingham is pleased to welcome Professor Charles Ainger to speak to the School of Civil Engineering .<\/p>\n<p>When \u2013 Friday, 30<sup>th<\/sup> of May, 4.30pm \u2013 6.00pm<\/p>\n<p>Where \u2013 School of Civil Engineering, room F32 (first floor)<\/p>\n<p>Cost \u2013 free!<\/p>\n<p>Professor Ainger is co-author of the book \u201dSustainable Infrastructure: Principles into Practice\u201d recently published by the Institution of Civil Engineers (see: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icevirtuallibrary.com\/content\/book\/102850\">http:\/\/www.icevirtuallibrary.com\/content\/book\/102850<\/a>).\u00a0 The book will form the basis for his talk with a particular focus upon innovation opportunities in design (chapter 7):<\/p>\n<p>Design within project delivery \u2013 asking the\u00a0 right question at the right time; outline design \u2013 reviewing scope, deciding options \u2013 getting innovation in and keeping it there; outline design \u2013 choosing solutions and designs \u2013 using the right criteria, practically; influencing for innovation \u2013 who, me?<\/p>\n<p>Charles Ainger \u00a0is Visiting Professor in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University.\u00a0 He is a former Sustainable Development Director for MWH\u2019s UK Operations.\u00a0 He has extensive water and environmental engineering experience in 16 countries from Europe to Asia.\u00a0 His particular interest is in facilitating effective innovation and change leadership in organisations moving to a more sustainable and carbon neutral approach.\u00a0 He is a recipient of an ICE President\u2019s Medal.\u00a0 Professor Ainger and his co-author Professor Richard Fenner are joint winners of the ICE George Stephenson Gold Medal.<\/p>\n<p>We do hope you can join us.\u00a0 The event is free to attend and registration is not required.\u00a0 Food and refreshments will be provided.\u00a0 If you require further information please contact me on <a href=\"mailto:j.leach@bham.ac.uk\">j.leach@bham.ac.uk<\/a> or 07785 792 187.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Birmingham is pleased to welcome Professor Charles Ainger to speak to the School of Civil Engineering .
