Current students

If you’re a new student who’s just getting started, there’s a lot of information to take in. That is why alongside faculty organised inductions, we also have our very own ICM Induction where we explain postgraduate regulations and procedures, focus on the first deadlines (learning agreement and project proposal) and students can ask questions.

All active students will be asked to log a monthly meeting with their supervisor. This is part of all students’ annual progression, but it’s of extra importance for all international students as it is one of the requirements for their tier4 visa. Other key milestones will be participating in the research seminars and completing an annual progress review.

Once you get near the end of your project, it’s time to start thinking about your thesis submission and examination. We’ll try to summarise the key information about the submission process, requirements for early or late submission, the actual examination procedure and possible exam outcomes.

If you’re interested in developing other skills than those specifically required for your research project, why not get involved in our extra-curricular opportunities and take part in workshops, teaching, or even become a student representative? Both PrICM and RealICM organise a number of research and social events throughout the academic year which are worth attending.

Or, if you’re interested in spending time abroad while working on your research project and/or learning new techniques in the lab, then you might want to think about outside study.

Even though we’d like things to go smoothly for all students, we’re well aware that sometimes there are special circumstances that can affect your work, whether it’s a change of degree, change of supervisors, change of projectinterruption or extension of studies – or if there’s no other way but to withdraw completely. Whatever the problem, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d also like to mention there are university services in place who deal with both student welfare and academic welfare on a daily basis.

There are, of course, also rules and regulations in place, so don’t forget to take a look at the policies & procedures or the leave policyGraduate school details can be found here if you need to get in touch with them.
