IELTS

You need a good level of English language to study at Newcastle University as it will be the main language you will use socially and for study. If English is not your first language you will need to provide a recognised English language test or qualification. The required level of knowledge does vary, so please read the ‘entry requirements’ section of our postgraduate course pages, but in general, students coming to the ICM need an average score of 6.5, with none of the tested sub-skills scoring under 5.5

English language courses

Students who don’t meet the English language requirements will be asked to complete a course to help improve their English before starting their degree. These are provided at INTO Newcastle. Students who haven’t studied with INTO Newcastle will be asked to take a short English Language test upon arrival.
