If you’re an external examiner travelling to Newcastle to attend a viva examination, you’ll be able to reclaim travel costs from the graduate school up to a maximum of £300. This includes hotel accommodation for the examiner up to £90/night, the rest can be used to cover actual travel.
How do I apply for travel cost reimbursement?
When the graduate school sends off the thesis and paperwork for a student’s examination, one of the forms you’ll receive is the “external examiner’s expenses reclaim form” which you’ll have to complete, sign and return to the graduate school. You will also have to include the original receipts, but don’t forget to take a copy for your own records before you send them off.
