If your circumstances have changed to the extent that continuing to work on your project has become impossible and a temporary suspension isn’t going to offer you the necessary time to resolve this, you can opt for a withdrawal from studies.
What next?
We always take a withdrawal very seriously. Unlike the interruption of studies, this completely terminates your registration at Newcastle University rather than putting everything on hold for a period of time.
Please – if you haven’t already – speak to your supervisors and the postgraduate team about your withdrawal plans. There are many options available if you are having a difficult time; some of them are an Interruption/Extension of studies, a Change of Degree, a Change of Supervisor or even a Change of Project.
If you have explored all other options, you can find the withdrawal from studies form on the university website as well as a questionnaire that you should complete together with your supervisor – if possible.
What if you’re an international student?
If you are an international student residing in the UK on a Tier4 visa, you have to take into account that withdrawal from studies will have implications for your visa as it will automatically be curtailed once your studies have been terminated. You will at that point be asked to return to your home country. More information can be found at the visa team web page.
