Here we summarise the key points of the guidance.<\/p>\n<p>When the student notifies us of their intention to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/thesis-submission\/\">submit a thesis<\/a>, the supervisors will be asked to nominate the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/appointment-of-examiners\/\">panel of examiners<\/a>. We have separate pages that describe the criteria for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/internal-examiners\/\">\u00a0Internal examiners<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/external-examiners\/\">External examiners<\/a>, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/internal-chair\/\">Internal chair<\/a>\u00a0where necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The student would normally <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/thesis-submission\/\">submit <\/a>around 3 months later, and for MD and PhD candidates the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/examination-process\/\">examination<\/a>\u00a0follows; for MPhil degrees, an oral exam is at the discretion of the examiners.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/icmpgr\/outcome-of-examination\/\">Outcome of Examination<\/a>\u00a0would normally be agreed between the examiners on the day, but there might be a requirement for corrections or even a further examination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The examination process is so important that the graduate school publish a separate\u00a0Examiners&#8217; Handbook, essential reading before the exam.
