{"id":22,"date":"2012-10-25T13:31:53","date_gmt":"2012-10-25T12:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/?p=22"},"modified":"2018-10-10T14:38:28","modified_gmt":"2018-10-10T13:38:28","slug":"flow-cytometry-storage-igm-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/?p=22","title":{"rendered":"Flow Cytometry &#8211; storage @ IGM guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our remit is to provide access to data produced by the <a title=\"FCCF web site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/fccf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flow Cytometry Core Facility<\/a>\u00a0via <strong>University Common Desktop PCs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Below are instructions on how to map drives to the two storage areas used by the FCCF. They are commonly known as the S: drive (scratch space\/live instrument data) and the R: drive\u00a0(archived data).<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Flow Cytometry users must\u00a0provide IGM IT with their University\u00a0username (not your FCCF username, nor do we need any passwords) in advance. Failure to do this will mean that you will not have access to the data. The FCCF team are not responsible\u00a0for enabling\u00a0access. Hence *your* need to request access from IGM IT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are a new Flow Cytometry user,<\/strong>\u00a0please send us your request for access, along with your University\u00a0login, to: igmithelp@ncl.ac.uk<\/p>\n<p>We have also provided instructions for Mac users, and there are two alternative ways for you to access your data when off campus (via RAS and webfolders).<\/p>\n<p>Returning to our remit, should you run into any issues when trying to access your data, we ask that you seek out a <strong>University Common Desktop computer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important! USB sticks\/portable drives are NOT permitted within the Flow Cytometry Core Facility. This is why we have been tasked with providing you with access to the instrument data via other means.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please do ensure that you have backups of your data. Files\u00a0stored on the S: drive are removed after 90 days, in order to maintain adequate storage space for *live* instrument data. Should you encounter problems using the above address, try the following alternative:<\/strong><br \/>\ncifs:\/\/campus.ncl.ac.uk\/scratch\/IHGSCRATCH\/FLOWCF<br \/>\nSome users have reported that substituting smb:\/\/ for cifs:\/\/ works for them<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional instructions for Mac users:<\/strong> click on Desktop area. Click on Finder (in menu bar), choose Preferences. Ensure \u2018Connected servers\u2019 option is ticked. You may find the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/2013\/07\/19\/webfolders-flow-cytometry\/\">Webfolders\u00a0option<\/a> easier to use than <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/2016\/12\/01\/flow-cytometry-off-campus-access-to-data-using-ras\/\">RAS<\/a>. Both work on any internet capable computer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accessing the FCCF data when on-campus, using a laptop (University owned or private laptop)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/2016\/12\/01\/flow-cytometry-mapping-fccf-drives-on-laptops-university-and-privately-owned\/\">The instructions can\u00a0be found here<\/a>. It is similar to mapping drives when using a University Common Desktop PC.<\/p>\n<p>However, you *must* precede your University username with campus\\ otherwise you will be refused access.
