This works on any Internet capable Windows\/Mac\/Linux computer, both on and off campus.<\/p>\n<p>Webfolders are a useful alternative to RAS, and they allow non University Common Desktop PCs access to your H: drive and Z: drive, regardless of your location.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use webfolders to access Institute folders and Research folders (more commonly known as the Z: drive). We have a <a title=\"Webfolders \u2013 Institute and Research folders (Z: drive)\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/igmit\/2013\/07\/11\/webfolders\/\">different set of instructions here<\/a>\u00a0explaining how to access those areas.<\/p>\n<p>__________________________________________<\/p>\n<p>Accessing your H: drive \/ home folder<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*** Windows 7 \/ XP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Users should follow the <strong><a title=\"ISS web folders advice\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/itservice\/filestore\/remoteaccess\/webfolders\/\">instructions provided by ISS<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/itservice\/filestore\/remoteaccess\/webfolders\/<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*** Apple Mac OS X<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finding your Home Folder \/ Webfolders path<\/p>\n<p>Open the Newcastle university home page:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk<br \/>\n<\/a>Click People search<br \/>\nClick My Details<br \/>\nIf prompted, authenticate using your campus ID and password.<br \/>\nClick the link for \u201cISS technical information, including details of which ISS servers you use and any role accounts you own.\u201d<br \/>\nEither make a note or right-click on the link next to &#8220;Home folder via WebFolders&#8221; and choose &#8220;Copy link&#8221; from the menu<br \/>\nClose your web browser<\/p>\n<p>Click on your desktop area<br \/>\nFinder (menu bar)<br \/>\nPreferences<br \/>\nEnsure that &#8220;Connected Servers&#8221; box is ticked<br \/>\nClose the window<\/p>\n<p>Go (menu bar)<br \/>\nConnect to Server&#8230;<br \/>\nCarefully enter the address you noted earlier or delete whatever address is currently in the Server Address box. Right-click and choose &#8220;Paste&#8221; from the menu<\/p>\n<p>You should end up with something that resembles<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/webfolders.ncl.ac.uk\/home\/homeXX\/n123example<\/p>\n<p>Click Connect button<br \/>\nEnter your ISS login and password<br \/>\nTick &#8220;remember this password in my keychain&#8221;<br \/>\nClick Connect button<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>*** Linux<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This has only been tested on our officially supported Linux distributions &#8211; Red Hat\/CentOS\/Scientific Linux\/Fedora. We will test other distributions later.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the first part of the Apple Mac instructions, with regards to finding your Home Folder\/Webfolder path<\/p>\n<p>Places (menu bar)<br \/>\nConnect to Server&#8230;<br \/>\nService type = Secure WebDAV (HTTPS)<br \/>\nServer = webfolders.ncl.ac.uk<br \/>\nFolder = \/home\/homeXX\/n123example<br \/>\n(replace homeXX, which can be found in the webfolder address you noted earlier, and n123example should be altered to reflect your ISS login<\/p>\n<p>username = your ISS login<br \/>\nName to use for connection = something useful eg h drive<br \/>\nClick Connect button<br \/>\nEnter your ISS password. Tick &#8220;remember my password for this session&#8221;<br \/>\nClick Connect button<br \/>\nClick &#8220;Allow Once&#8221; button<\/p>\n<p>When finished, remember to unmount your webfolder.
