For some reason Outlook gave me the following error:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-526\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"885\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook1.png 885w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook1-300x54.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook1-500x90.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 885px) 100vw, 885px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Opening up <strong>Deleted Items<\/strong>\u00a0and trying to delete each folder in turn gave me this slightly different one &#8211; but equally frustrating :<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook-error.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-527\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook-error.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"883\" height=\"114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook-error.png 883w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook-error-300x38.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/outlook-error-500x64.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 883px) 100vw, 883px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Attempts to permanently delete the items (using SHIFT and Delete) drew a blank &#8211; same problem.<\/p>\n<p>Playing with the folder permissions (via the properties pane) &#8211; no joy.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly this is a bug in Outlook (and not anything I was doing wrong). Workaround was to log into the mailbox using Outlook Web Access (OWA) and trying it from there &#8211; no problem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/owa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-528\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/isg\/files\/2014\/01\/owa.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It would seem that the synchronisation logic that the full client uses is buggy &#8211; it&#8217;s useful to remember that you can <strong><em>sometimes do things in OWA that you cannot with Outlook<\/em><\/strong> if you run into trouble.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doing some tidying up of a mailbox the other day, and wanted to delete some empty folders from the Deleted Items (i.e. permanently delete them).
