Our research

Welcome to the blog of the Pirog research group. We are part of the Skeletal Research Group (SRG) at Newcastle University, a vibrant research group uniting 6 PI’s who’s research bridges the rare and common skeletal diseases in a holistic approach to understand cartilage development and ageing. The SRG have 3 principal areas of investigation: molecular mechanisms of common skeletal conditions, pathobiology or rare skeletal conditions and epigenetic modifications in cartilage and disease.

The research in our lab focuses on the extracellular matrix abnormalities associated with disease and ageing and the mechanisms by which the cells sense such changes in musculoskeletal tissues.
