Their visit had sparked a flame of curiosity within us, reminding us of the incredible potential we possess to enact positive change. With newfound knowledge and a shared determination to protect our planet, we left the day feeling empowered and ready to take on the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6f5e6277be54f4e93aab8a6e69006df9\" style=\"line-height:2\">So, here\u2019s to science, friendship, and making a difference. It has been the epicentre of a renewed &#8220;buzz&#8221; around school about environmentalism and science. The children explored the challenges and possible solutions to the climate crisis in a variety of hands-on ways which kept them engaged and stimulated. Key concepts and information were repeated over the course of the project, ensuring retention and consolidation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" style=\"line-height:2\">I feel the loop of learning outside the classroom feeding into work inside it and vice versa is a key one for successful learning. Not only was KATS a perfect example of this, but it was also an exemplar of it running smoothly thanks to the hard work and excellent preparation that Elle put in. I look forward to further collaboration in the future!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dd05dd6ee01a1ef0cbbaa8477fbee773\" style=\"line-height:2\">KATS has done two main things for our school. It has increased the pupils\u2019 awareness of environmental issues and this information has filtered to classmates and others; it has been a positive domino effect\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-black-color has-css-opacity has-black-background-color has-background is-style-default\" \/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-resized is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"748\" height=\"476\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/kats\/files\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-01-at-17.55.17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/kats\/files\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-01-at-17.55.17.png 748w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/kats\/files\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-01-at-17.55.17-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size\" style=\"line-height:2\"><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Janya Collective (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/kats\/kats-india\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"348\" target=\"_blank\">KATS: India<\/a>) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-normal-font-size\" style=\"line-height:2\">&#8220;The KATS India pilot program helped understand that there is a clear demand for more of such initiatives to build awareness on climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color has-normal-font-size\" style=\"line-height:2\">While several programs exist in Indian schools on climate change, KATS stands out due to its proactive approach of empowering children to address climate change in a child friendly and technology driven manner. The excitement of using the technology such as the VR headsets and the air and weather monitors, really helped to bring their learning to life and, along with the final day\u2019s visit to the Great North Museum, were real project highlights for us all!.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" style=\"line-height:2\">I cannot recommend the KATS project highly enough and we can\u2019t wait to be involved again next year! The kids absolutely loved all four days of the project! There was a variety of different activities and it never felt repetitive. It really educated our young people to think about what action they can take to fight climate change and realise the current situation the Earth is in. The VR headsets and the day at the Great North museum were real highlights for our children. It gave some of them opportunities they would never otherwise have and they are still talking about it now! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" style=\"line-height:2\">We really appreciate being involved in this project and hope we are asked back next year! Being able to have the VR headsets and have that experience, as not everyone is not able to go snorkelling with the sea turtles. To have that connection to what is all around them is really important, but I feel that was just a taster, there is so much more that the kids need.
