Your body uses glucose as<strong> energy<\/strong> for everything you do.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left;width: 270px;margin: 10px;background-color: #ddd\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding: 10px\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/leadingedge\/files\/2013\/05\/Insulin.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"262\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 10px\">The insulin peptide structure<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Insulin<\/strong> is a hormone that is made in the pancreas when there is too much glucose in the blood. Insulin acts like a key that opens the doors that lets glucose move from the blood and into your cells. It is then used for energy.<\/p>\n<p>When someone\u2019s body loses its ability to produce Insulin, they have Type 1 Diabetes and when someone\u2019s Insulin loses its ability to \u2018open the door\u2019 to their cells, they have Type 2 Diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Symptoms<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frequent urination<\/li>\n<li>Dehydration<\/li>\n<li>Thirst<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Problems caused by Diabetes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blindness<\/li>\n<li>Kidney failure<\/li>\n<li>Problems with legs and feet<\/li>\n<li>Death<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Some facts about Diabetes&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Type 1 Diabetes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Genetic (inherit from parents)<\/li>\n<li>Autoimmune condition (your immune system attacks your pancreas, leading to Diabetes)<\/li>\n<li>Begins when you are a kid<\/li>\n<li>Need to inject Insulin into your body everyday for treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Type 2 Diabetes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lifestyle (lack of exercise, obesity)<\/li>\n<li>Can happen at any age<\/li>\n<li>Need to live a healthier life, exercise more and sometimes take medicines for treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Discussion Points:<\/strong> Diabetes is one example of where a biomarker test is used on a daily basis by patients. Here the focus is on self-management not diagnosis.
