This one day course is themed around the understanding the significance of bookbindings. Books are much more than the text they contain; their complex structures and methods of production have evolved over time. Recognising features of bindings and understanding the structure of the book can reveal significant bibliographic information. Participants will learn why bookbindings are important and the information they can reveal; how to recognise historic bindings; how to handle different types of binding structures and the use of appropriate protective enclosures; how to describe bindings; and conservation options for bookbindings.<\/p>\n
