{"id":2427,"date":"2016-06-16T11:51:59","date_gmt":"2016-06-16T10:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=2427"},"modified":"2016-06-16T13:22:28","modified_gmt":"2016-06-16T12:22:28","slug":"2427","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2016\/06\/16\/2427\/","title":{"rendered":"Videos of Wenger-Trayner Keynotes Available Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in China recently welcomed social and community learning experts Etienne and Beverley Wenger-Trayner and have made videos of their talks and workshops available online.<\/p>\n<p>The videos &#8211; recorded over a three day visit during which the pair were keynote speakers at the University&#8217;s International Colloquium &#8211; are all available online.<\/p>\n<p>Each offers a short insight into the sessions delivered around social learning and communities of practice as approaches to teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Both are global leaders in the field. Etienne has authored and co-authored seminal articles and books on learning, including <em>Situated Learning <\/em>(1991)<em>\u00a0<\/em>where the term &#8216;community of practice&#8217; was coined.<\/p>\n<p>A &#8216;community of practice&#8217;, as Wenger describes on <a href=\"http:\/\/wenger-trayner.com\/\">the pair&#8217;s\u00a0website <\/a>is a group of people &#8216;who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He has also published\u00a0<em>Communities of Practice <\/em>(1998),\u00a0\u00a0<em>Cultivating Communities of Practice<\/em> (2002), and <em>Digital Habitats<\/em> (2009).<\/p>\n<p>Beverly is a learning consultant who specialises in social learning systems.<\/p>\n<p>She has worked with international organizations such as the Nuclear Threat Initiative, the International Labor Organization, and The World Bank.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mahara.xjtlu.edu.cn\/user\/academic-enhancement-centre\/etienne-and-beverly-wenger-trayner-s-visit-to-the-learning-and-teaching-colloquium-2016\">The videos <\/a>include their keynote address, interviews and a CPS\/CPD workshop.
