Turnitin is changing to meet new and existing needs<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jamie Whitehead, Account Manager, Turnitin, informed the group of a recent consultation Turnitin had carried out and ran through some of the\u00a0 key themes important to stakeholders which were: reliability, data access, marking &amp; moderation, assessment workflows and integrations, customer relations, ghost writing, and future requirements.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Turnitin are going to be running an early adopter programme for institutions who are interested in tackling contract cheating, using their product and influencing the next stage of development. When it comes to submitting he advised\u00a0 making sure the guidance is clear\u00a0 and encouraging students to submit earlier than the deadline.<\/p>\n<h5>3. Variety works with TEL training<\/h5>\n<p>Lee Hall from Northumbria University took the group through their approach to training staff with TEL.<\/p>\n<p>The team at Northumbria deliver a wide range of training including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TEL monthly face to face sessions<\/li>\n<li>Drop in sessions<\/li>\n<li>Video guidance<\/li>\n<li>Online training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3927\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3927\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3927\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Lee Hall presenting to the group\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/03\/Lee.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3927\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lee Hall, Northumbria University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Staff can also work towards gaining open badges at bronze, silver and gold level which has been received well by some staff.<\/p>\n<p>As well as delivery,\u00a0 Lee outlined how the team at Northumbria integrate pedagogy and &#8216;point and click&#8217; training and the group considered the advantages and disadvantages\u00a0 of combining these training elements.<\/p>\n<h5>4.\u00a0 Benefits of a bespoke VLE<\/h5>\n<p>John Moss from Newcastle University gave a demo of the MLE, a bespoke VLE developed specifically for MBBS students. Key benefits include\u00a0 the introduction of case studies for students to work through as well as some features such as a daily timetable, personal glossary and easy access to an academic mentor.
