{"id":4088,"date":"2018-05-16T10:41:24","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T09:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=4088"},"modified":"2018-05-16T10:41:24","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T09:41:24","slug":"media-enhanced-learning-special-interest-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2018\/05\/16\/media-enhanced-learning-special-interest-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Media enhanced learning special interest group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4089\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0-768x543.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0-1024x724.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/files\/2018\/05\/tree-200795_1920_cc0.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Media Enhanced Learning Special Interest Group (MELSIG) is a group of academics, learning technologists, staff developers and others whose purpose is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop a self-sustaining UK Special Interest Group and community of practice for Media Enhanced Learning that adds value, builds capacity, and stimulates global partnerships and networks;<\/li>\n<li>facilitate discussion and dissemination of the pedagogic use, purposes and benefits of digital and social media in post-compulsory education, and to consider its future uses;<\/li>\n<li>provide a staff development focal point for media-enhanced academic practice (digital audio, video, smart and social media, and the use of related technologies), from \u2018novice\u2018 to \u2018expert\u2019;<\/li>\n<li>integrate \u2018the student experience\u2019 and \u2018student views\u2019 into SIG activities and deliberations;<\/li>\n<li>be a resource for pedagogic research and investigation in the areas relating to digital and social media, related new technologies and applications;<\/li>\n<li>co-ordinate a network of practitioners;<\/li>\n<li>provide information and guidance on practice through its association;<\/li>\n<li>provide an annual futures report based on a survey of leading international practitioners in the area of media-enhanced learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With a diverse stering group drawn from post compulsory education from all over the UK, it is an active group sharing effective practice widely.<\/p>\n<p>There is already a great set of co-produced <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/\">resources<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/?doing_wp_cron=1526462455.6734409332275390625000\">MELSIG website<\/a>, including :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/audio-feedback-toolkit\/\">audio feedback toolkit<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/podcasting-howtos\/\">how to guidance on making podcasts<\/a><\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/twalk-toolkit\/\">Twalk toolkit<\/a> (Twalk <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/twalk-toolkit\/definition\/\">definition<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"https:\/\/melsig.shu.ac.uk\/melsig\/resources\/social-media-for-learning-framework\/\">social media for learning framework<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regular events (usually free to attend)\u00a0 provide opportunities for networking with others from different disciplines and institutions to co-produce more toolkits, collaborate and share effective practice.
