Congratulations to the Newcastle University Medicine\u00a0 Malaysia (NUMed) Anatomy Working Group (AWG)\u00a0 who were awarded the Gold Award for their recent participation in the Innovation in Anatomy Teaching Competition at the Malaysian Anatomical Association Education Symposium (MAAES) in Kuala Terengganu.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Their winning teaching innovation focused on a novel and interactive\u00a0approach to teach the\u00a0anterolateral abdominal walls\u00a0musculature to stage 1 MBBS students.\u00a0 The group\u00a0combined both technology (socrative apps) and inexpensive teaching aids (coloured adhesive tapes and the skeleton model) to create an interactive and fun learning experience for students.\u00a0The group were one of\u00a0the 5 finalists to showcase their teaching innovation at the symposium.<\/p>\n

They also conducted a pilot study to compare the students’ performance in the pre-laboratory test versus the post-laboratory test in this teaching innovation, and this was presented as a poster presentation at the same symposium.<\/p>\n

\"NU<\/a><\/p>\n

Dr Ronnie Valdez Mayo, Dr Madihah Rushaidhi, Dr Anna Lisa Casil Cruz and Dr Carlo Paolo Coquia Adrillana all worked on this innovation and were pleased to be recognised for their practical and creative skills, as well as great team work.<\/p>\n

We are really proud of this achievement and hopefully our Anatomy Working Group\u00a0can continue their excellent teaching\u00a0innovation in future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is the second win in a row for the group who won first place in anatomy teaching innovation last year for their teaching in a difficult neuroanatomy concept: the cutaneous innervation of the brachial plexus, using stockings and gloves.<\/p>\n

The group are now\u00a0 looking forward to next year and exploring more teaching innovations.<\/p>\n
