{"id":491,"date":"2015-03-24T11:27:24","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T11:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/numoocs\/?p=491"},"modified":"2021-09-17T15:47:39","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T14:47:39","slug":"almost-there-the-shed-mentors-met-yesterday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2015\/03\/24\/almost-there-the-shed-mentors-met-yesterday\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost there &#8211; The Shed Mentors met yesterday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/numoocs\/files\/2015\/01\/shed_line_drawing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-442\" alt=\"shed_line_drawing\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/numoocs\/files\/2015\/01\/shed_line_drawing-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>We had a really productive meeting yesterday morning when the Lead Sheducator, Sheducators and Mentors met to familiarise themselves with The Enterprise Shed: Making Ideas Happen and how it will run when it starts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/enterprise-shed\">next Monday on FutureLearn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We have a great bunch of people, all experts in enterprise and entrepreneurial thinking, ready and eager to work with learners on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/enterprise-shed\">The Enterprise Shed: Making Ideas Happen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps you have met some of them already?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/sage\/contact\/facultyteam\/profile\/katie.wray\">Katie Wray<\/a> is a Lecturer in Enterprise in the SAgE Faculty here at Newcastle University and Lead Sheducator.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/careers\/about\/staff\/profile\/rebecca.fisher\">Rebecca Fisher<\/a> is an Entrepreneurial Development Officer, also at Newcastle University and is both a Sheducator and Mentor.<\/li>\n<li>Simon Laing is a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginstartup.org\/case-study\/startup-week-cullercoats-bike-kayak\/\">Virgin Startup success story with Cullercoats Bike &amp; Kayak<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Angela McLean (and her daughter, Jessica McCarthy) recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baggersoriginals.com\/37\/181\">secured a deal for \u00a3100,000 from Dragon&#8217;s Den for their Baggers Originals<\/a> childrens rainwear company.<\/li>\n<li>Jane Nolan, MBE is a Teaching Fellow in Enterprise with the International Centre for Music Studies in the School of Arts and Cultures and a Visiting Entrepreneur supporting the work of Newcastle University Careers Service. She was awarded the MBE in 2000 for services to UK exports.<\/li>\n<li>Dr Colin Jones is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utas.edu.au\/australian-innovation-research-centre\/research\/enterprise-and-creativity\/creativity\/dr-colin-jones\">Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the University of Tasmania<\/a> where he works in the Australian Innovation Research Centre.<\/li>\n<li>Dr Victoria Mountford is an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and people-focused individual with a range of experience in (enterprise &amp; employability) higher education, (academic &amp; commercial) research &amp; business development. She works as a Development Officer in the Newcastle University Careers Service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There will be other enterprising individuals popping up throughout this highly participatory course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/ecls\/staff\/profile\/sugata.mitra\">Professor Sugata Mitra<\/a> is Professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University and was given the $1m TED Prize in 2013 in recognition of his work and to help build a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/sugata_mitra_build_a_school_in_the_cloud?language=en\">School in the Cloud<\/a> &#8211; he tells us more about that.<\/li>\n<li>We were very excited when Lead Sheducator Katie Wray asked Sir Richard Branson when he visited Newcastle recently<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/SlPd1i5cGHE?t=20m25s\"> what kind of people he thought were entrepreneurial<\/a>&#8230;<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>Most people ought to be able to become entrepreneurs if they put their mind to it. <em>Sir Richard Branson, 3 March 2014, Northern Stage, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginstartup.org\/\">Virgin Startup<\/a> event organised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tedco.org\/\">TEDCO Business Support<\/a>.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is still plenty of time to sign up and explore your enterprising side &#8211; come and join us in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/enterprise-shed\">The Enterprise Shed<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had a really productive meeting yesterday morning when the Lead Sheducator, Sheducators and Mentors met to familiarise themselves with The Enterprise Shed: Making Ideas Happen and how it will run when it starts next Monday on FutureLearn.
