{"id":5361,"date":"2020-01-27T11:02:16","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T11:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=5361"},"modified":"2021-09-17T15:35:05","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T14:35:05","slug":"transition-to-the-digital-exams-service-a-timeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2020\/01\/27\/transition-to-the-digital-exams-service-a-timeline\/","title":{"rendered":"Transition to the Digital Exams Service: A Timeline"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> Following&nbsp;our&nbsp;October 2019&nbsp;post&nbsp;introducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2019\/10\/21\/introducing-the-digital-exams-service\/\">digital exam service<\/a>,&nbsp;we&nbsp;have&nbsp;a progress update and&nbsp;some&nbsp;news about what\u2019s happening next.&nbsp;&nbsp;Centrally supported digital exam provision (including the OLAF Service,&nbsp;and&nbsp;the&nbsp;Diversifying online exam provision project) is being combined into a single service,&nbsp;and we are reviewing our requirements&nbsp;ready to&nbsp;tender for a system that meets our needs.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;2020<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/elements.ncl.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=1249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Requirement Mapping Workshops<\/a>&nbsp;will be taking place. The outcomes of these sessions will help to inform the requirements that we will take to system providers.&nbsp;&nbsp;All academic and professional services staff with an interest in digital exams are&nbsp;invited to contribute.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please sign up via the link&nbsp;to have your say!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>2020<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tender for digital exam system (30-35 days response time). A set of final requirements will be issued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April \u2013 May<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;2020<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scoring of tender submissions against requirements will take place alongside user testing of software that meets our mandatory requirements.&nbsp; Look out for updates about how to get involved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>\u2013<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;July<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;2020<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A provider&nbsp;will be awarded the contract to&nbsp;supply&nbsp;a digital exam system to the University.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this, work will be&nbsp;undertaken&nbsp;to move&nbsp;as much&nbsp;of existing digital exam questions&nbsp;and content&nbsp;into&nbsp;the&nbsp;new system&nbsp;as is possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;2020<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new system will be vigorously tested and integrated with University systems.\u00a0User guidance and training for all stakeholder will be developed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August assessment period<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Any exam deferrals and resits in the August assessment period will need to be completed\/submitted in Canvas. <\/strong>The Blackboard license ends on July 31st and from that point no staff or students will be able to access that system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools should adopt the same method of assessment that was used in Semester 2 for any resits\/deferrals in the August assessment period.
